MATURITY, A REQUISITE TRAIT FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

MATURITY; A REQUISITE TRAIT FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.

It is commonly said "maturity is not by age" but I doubt if most people conform to this statement.

The concept of maturity is too broad to just limit it to a particular thing as one that qualifies a person to be seen as a mature individual.

Yes, we can accept the fact that an adult of 29 years of age and an adult of 19 years of age are of different age brackets and as such the older one is supposed to be seen as the most mature person between both of them.

But, what happens when you realize that the person of 29 years of age is not disciplined enough to make a plan for his/her life and work towards it?

What would you say when you realize that this person lacks communication skills for effective relationships?

How are you going to deal with the fact that a person of 29 years of age can not be humble enough to be taught by others?

Meanwhile, the opposite is found in the adult of 19 years of age.

What is Maturity?

Maturity refers to the practice in which a person responds and reacts to various life situations with the appropriate behaviour.

Quick question.

With the current happenings in our society and country, do you think maturity can be determined by age?

The only way of determining a person's maturity is by his/her character and response towards various life situations.

There are different areas of a person's life in which maturity is extremely needed to be seen as these areas give birth to various situations one may find him/herself.

They include physical, mental, spiritual, financial and emotional areas.

If one is mature in these areas, it would be easy to know.

An individual who is mature physically (biologically) has certain features in him/herself that make it easy for them to be recognised.

Also, one who is mature mentally would have a different but responsible way of processing information and events.

Likewise, one who is mature spiritually.

As much as we agree that the majority of us are Christians and believe in God, go to Church and attend other weekly activities, we tend to not know the real concept of the spiritual realm.

Yes, life is affected by our actions but there's a realm that controls life and everything in it- the spiritual realm. For us to fully operate in this physical realm, we need to know our stand in God's kingdom and work in it by God's word first through the spiritual realm to manifest in the physical.

I'm so sorry, it's not a Bible study class, yeah, but the truth needs to be said.

Furthermore, one who is mature financially does not necessarily have to be wealthy; rather he or she understands the basic secrets of growing financially and avoiding being broke like we normally say - managing resources and responsibly investing in legitimate businesses for growth.

Finally, an emotionally mature individual has control over his/her feelings. He/she has understood the dangers of being controlled by emotions and has mastered the art of controlling theirs.

This is where personal development comes into play.

"Personal development is a conscious and intentional effort made by an individual to improve him/herself in all areas"- Victoria Udoh Imoh.

One who possesses maturity in all these areas cannot have a problem sailing through life because each of them plays a role and makes things easier for the individual.

The person becomes balanced and can think outside the box to put his/her life in shape.

At this point, it becomes easy for the individual to work by his/her plan of becoming a better person in all ramifications of life.

Therefore, in all we do this year, let's seek to be mature enough in these major areas of life.

It maintains genuine relationships and prevents us from any disaster that is supposed to occur as a result of immaturity.
